The Joy of Jolly Jars
This term, our Project Based Learning (PBL) started with the teachers putting us into groups. In these groups we had to work collaboratively to create Jolly Jars for the school fair. This task helped us to begin exploring our PBL question for the term - How can we build community through our actions? We had to research ideas, be creative with our product, experiment with our materials and write instructions that could be followed by others.
Here is a link to my instructions.
I learnt that instructions need to have bossy verbs at the start of the sentences. They also need capital letters and full stops at the end of all sentences. Also you need a title so that people know what they are making. Instructions can be hard to make sometimes because they have to make sense. It took us a while to finish our instructions. Instructions also need to have the materials and steps that people can understand.
Reflection on PBL: For our Jolly Jar my group made slime because it was something we all agreed on and for our backup we were going to do origami if we could not do slime. We had lots of fun creating the slime and testing it to make sure it was a good thing to sell.
I contributed to my group by getting 2 bottles of glue and the borax and some of the containers for borax and also my jar. I was going to bring the food colouring but we actually did not put food coloring in the jar because lots of people have food colouring and you only needed a few drops.
Our Jolly Jar was creative because we all decorated our jars and had fun adding glitter and putting paint on our jar and also adding tissue paper.
What I learned about working with others is that it can sometimes be hard working with other people. I enjoyed working with some other people because it was a new experience for me. I also enjoyed it because we got to make fun slime.
How did we build community through our actions? By making the jolly jar to sell and get the money for the bike track. I will probably use the bike track because I live very close to school and it sounds fun.
